Additional Exams to be Held for Students Who Have Completed Their Maximum Period of Study
Pursuant to the decision taken at the Higher Education General Assembly meeting dated 27 September 2021 sent with the letter of the Council of Higher Education Presidency dated 15.10.2021,
- Students who have completed their maximum period of study at the end of the 2020-2021 Academic Year Spring semester and the 2021-2022 Academic Year Fall semester, and
- Students whose registrations were canceled due to failing the Foreign Language Preparatory Class between the 2017-2018 Academic Year Fall semester and the 2021-2022 Academic Year Fall semester and who were not placed in higher education programs teaching in Turkish,
may benefit from the right to take additional exams if they apply between 31 January and 04 February 2022 via the SIS system / to the relevant department head / to the Department of Basic Foreign Languages of the School of Foreign Languages.
By the decision of our University Senate, students have been granted the right to take two additional exams covering the Spring semester of the 2021-2022 Academic Year. Due to the presence of students with and without applied courses among the students in this situation, the process has been left to the authority of the department head within the framework of the principles stated below, between the date the 2021-2022 Spring semester begins and the last day of the Spring semester make-up exams.

Matters Regarding Additional Exams
- Students who will benefit from the right to take additional exams must pay their tuition fee/contribution fee between the dates specified in the academic calendar for the Spring semester of the 2021-2022 Academic Year, in which they will exercise their additional exam rights, after their applications for the additional exam. - For all theoretical courses in the curriculum that they have failed for graduation, students will be granted the right to take two additional exams covering the Spring semester of the 2021-2022 Academic Year following the semester in which they completed their maximum period of study.
- For all applied courses in the curriculum that they have failed for graduation, which are exclusively in the nature of practice, laboratory, project, studio, workshop, sketch, design, fieldwork, seminar, graduation project, compulsory internship, etc., an application program of at least 4 weeks will be prepared by the relevant Department Heads in the Spring semester of the 2021-2022 Academic Year, and subsequently, two additional exam rights will be granted within the semester.
- Students who only have an internship remaining in their curriculum or who wish to benefit from additional exam rights due to failed courses along with an internship may complete their internship work during the additional exam period by paying the tuition fee/contribution fee for the relevant semester. Compulsory internship procedures, which hold the status of applied courses, will be carried out according to the provisions of the “YTU Undergraduate Education Internship Implementation Directive”.
- Students who do not use their Additional Exam Right (Having a Maximum of Five Failed Courses) and wish to benefit from the Right to Four Semesters of Additional Time as of the Spring Semester of the 2021-2022 Academic Year must apply to the Department Head.
- If students complete the course(s) they are required to take in the elective group, they do not need to take additional exams for the extra courses they took from the relevant group. Students who have extra courses taken from the same elective pool will need to apply to the Department Head to which they are enrolled with a petition containing their requests for the deletion of these courses.
- Students who have completed their maximum period of study will also be granted the right to take additional exams for their courses conditionally passed with a DC grade in the curriculum upon request. Students in this situation must also apply through the system to raise their grades.
- Students whose registrations were canceled due to failing the Compulsory Foreign Language Preparatory Class and who were not placed in higher education programs teaching in Turkish will benefit from two additional exam rights if they apply at the beginning of the semester following the semester in which their registration was canceled, on the dates specified in the academic calendar. However, those who hold a valid foreign language proficiency certificate in accordance with the provisions of the “YTU School of Foreign Languages Education and Examination Directive” begin their undergraduate studies from the first year in the relevant semester.
Students who are successful at the end of the additional exams after failing the Compulsory Foreign Language Preparatory Class, or who submit a valid foreign language proficiency certificate in accordance with the provisions of the “YTU School of Foreign Languages Education and Examination Directive” by the end of the second additional exam at the latest, continue their undergraduate education from the first year starting from the next academic year.
- Students who have completed their maximum period of study are exempted from the grade point average requirement and/or prerequisite restrictions determined by the Senate for course selection during additional exams and additional periods.
- For students who will complete their maximum period of study and benefit from additional exam and additional period rights, the provision in Article 22, clause (b) of the “Yildiz Technical University Associate and Undergraduate Degree Education and Examination Regulation” stating “In order for a student to take the Graduation Project, they must have passed courses covering at least 75% of the total credits in the curriculum and their CGPA must be at least 2.00.” shall not be applied.
- Compensation for applied courses and additional exams will be held face-to-face, and no excuse exam will be arranged for the additional exams to be held. Students must apply to exercise their right to additional exams by paying the tuition fee for the relevant semester on the announced dates. Students who do not apply on the announced dates or who do not take the exam despite having applied shall be deemed to have waived these rights and shall be declared failed.
